Queens Writes Weekend is a weekend-long event held at various locations around the borough where participants are inspired to come write for a few hours in local coffee houses, parks, restaurants, homes, art galleries, museums, and other community settings. There are prompts and themes to inspire your writing and every Queens Writes Weekend site is different. These writing sites aren't classes (we have those!) and no one will be critiquing anyone's work.
It’s a once-a-year opportunity to meet new friends, reconnect with others in the writing community, join our vibrant literary community, and get in touch with your writing.
Whether you’re a first-time writer or have been writing for years, this event is for you.
The weekend will begin Friday night with an opening reading at Astoria Bookshop, featuring recent contributors to the journal. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, we have sites all over the borough where the community is invited to come write, connect, and be a part of the supportive Queens literary community! Close out the weekend by joining us for a reading and open mic on Sunday at Terraza 7 in Elmhurst.
All sites have a suggested donation of $5 to go towards our non-profit mission—supporting writers and writing in Queens. Select events will also have journals for sale.
Use #QueensWrites on your social media for an additional way to connect with other Queens writers.
The calendar of events over the weekend is below. Many of the events have Facebook event pages, as well; click on the title of the event to be taken to more information and a way to connect with others before and after the event. Check back for more information on these sites, plus new sites, as we are always adding and updating the weekend's events.
