Newtown Literary Writing Class - Scott Cheshire

December 3, 2017

"Never Have Writer's Block Again" was the promise that lured a capacity audience to the Jackson Heights branch of the Queens Public Library this past Saturday.

Scott Cheshire, a professor at Queens College and the author of High as the Horses' Bridles led a carefully constructed two hour tutorial that included techniques such as word/image mapping and a brief overview of Aristotelean dramatic and literary theory.

I'm not even joking. That may sound esoteric and drily academic, but the audience response to various writing prompts was both enthusiastic and thoughtfully considered.

It was  a Saturday afternoon well spent, and best of all - it was free! Newtown Literary, in partnership with the Queens Library and the support of NYC Council members Daniel Dromm and Elizabeth S. Crowley will be doing a monthly series of free writing classes through May 2018.

Our next class -"Hearing Voices"- led by Newtown Literary's poetry editor, Sokunthary Svay, will be held at the Maspeth branch of the Queens Library on January 6, 2018

The rest of the free writing class schedule can be accessed here.
