Hassanal Abdullah at First Tuesdays

The featured reader at this final First Tuesdays reading of the 2017/2018 season was Hassanal Abdullah, a poet, novelist, critic, translator and the editor of Shabdaguchha, an International Bilingual Poetry Magazine. He is the author of 40 books in different genres. He is the inventor of a new form of sonnet called a Swatantra.

I knew the blues song front to back (1)

I'm not the only one who has been exiled from the sanctuary of virtue (2)

All you need is meat (3)

It stands up in praise of God (4)

And yet you're still alive (5)

The colors, I heard, stayed (6)

Her bookmarks were dead flowers (7)

Razor sharpened on both ends (8)

Before the idea of awe (9)

I did not know what to say or what to do (10)

I have to hold on tight , or I'll be killed (11)

Powerful winds rifle through these parts (12)

A price she will have to pay until she is old (13)
